5 Ways to Style a Cover-up
If you’re planning on hitting the pool or beach this summer - or if you’re planning a tropical vacay - then you might be wondering what to wear over your bikini. Living in So Cal, I get plenty of practice styling tunics, sheer skirts, and linen pants that make for chic cover-ups. So, I wanted to share with you ladies five different ways I like to dress up a bikini or one-piece that can take your look from the beach to happy hour!
LOOK 1: WIDE-LEG LINEN OR SHEER PANTS - You ladies know I love me some trousers, and lighter fabrics like linen make great cover-ups. I like to pair them with a tied up blouse to show as little or much skin as you want, or I’ll just wear a one-piece underneath. You could totally wear this look to drinks or even dinner if you’re while on vacation.
LOOK 2: BELTED TUNIC - Tunics make great cover-ups, but to cinch in the waist I like to add a belt. I think a belt adds some extra chicness - that way you could take your swimsuit from the beach to happy hour - so convenient when you’re on vacay! Add a straw hat and some sunnies (for protection and fashion, of course) and you’re good to go!
LOOK 3: DENIM SHORTS + CARDIGAN OR BLOUSE - I wear my denim shorts all summer long, so it’s a no-brainer that I’d wear them as a cover-up too! I like to pair them with a light cardigan or an oversized blouse. You could even throw on a sweatshirt for cooler evenings after the sun goes down. This is my go-to look for evening bonfires which I love during the summer!
LOOK 4: SHEER SKIRT - My favorite way to style a sheer skirt as a cover-up is with a one-piece underneath. For me it gives a little more coverage, and then that way I don’t have to worry about wearing anything on top. I, of course, will add a large hat and some statement jewelry take it to the next level.
LOOK 5: STATEMENT COLOR OR PRINT - While I’m a huge fan of black and neutrals, I like to spice things up every once in a while! That being said, I think a bright pop of red or statement print can add some interest and edge to your outfit - it is summer after all! Plus, 70s prints and florals are trending this season so why not have a little fun?
