NYC Trip Recap-Winter!
This year, my family and I celebrated Thanksgiving in New York which is so magical during the holidays! We have family there so it was nice being able to spend some time with them. We also stayed a few extra nights in the city to do some sightseeing and family-friendly activities, so I thought it’d be great to share what we where up to. Especially if you have kids and if it’s your first time traveling there during this time of year! Read on for my travel recommendations and NYC musts….
Where to Stay
We split our time between staying with family in the Bronx and then went to the city for four days. We really like staying in the Meatpacking District, there's tons of great restaurants, things to do and we have friends that live nearby.
On this trip, we chose The Gansevoort Hotel in the Meatpacking District which I highly recommend! It was really hard to find a hotel for four people and with two beds that wasn't TINY and this one was great! We had a huge room with a view, perfect location and close to Chelsea, Tribeca, and great shopping!

What to Do
Noguchi Museum - We have a Noguchi table and are big fans of his design aesthetic, so this was high on our list! It's quick (maybe 30 min) but I wouldn't recommend bringing kids - they'll be bored!
The High Line - This one of our favorite traditions! Get a hot coffee and just walk, enjoy seeing the city in a new way! You can also pop down to Chelsea to do some shopping, then pop back up and keep walking.
Museum of Moving Image - We just loved the Jim Henson Exhibition! This was fun for the kids to see the Muppets, Sesame Street, and so many more iconic favorites!
Ice Skating and Christmas Village in Bryant Park
Shopping - Go see the gorgeous department store windows if you’re visiting during the holidays! Macy's and Bergdorf's are like art! Soho is amazing shopping. 5h ave for that very over the top NY shopping experience!
More to Do
Rockefeller Center - So iconic and you must see the Christmas tree in December!
Central Park
The Met
Broadway Show
Statue of Liberty
MOMA- Hands down my favorite!
The Vessel
Hudson Yards
Walk the Brooklyn Bridge
What to Pack
This was actually my first time going this time of year and it was COLD! I'd suggest a longer wool coat, lots of cute henleys to layer under sweaters/sweatshirts, fleece lined tights (IYKYK) I wore these under everything even jeans, and also VESTS! They're my new favorite thing to top off a look and elevate a cold weather outfit!
I did not bother to take any heels because this was a family trip, not a going out trip! Instead, I packed comfy, but always chic, boots!
