Deer Valley Trip Recap
As you girls know, this was only our second year skiing but we’ve LOVED these family trips so much that we've made it a point of visiting a new ski town/mountain each trip. This time, we decided to visit Deer Valley AND I have to say it's my favorite location so far! First of all, it’s an easy flight for us from San Diego which is great for a family of four. It is bustling with great restaurants and shopping, is SOOOO charming AND since we are new to the sport, there is a lot of green (the easiest) ski runs for beginners. There are SO many mountains and resorts connected that it makes it fun to ski from one place to another and it is GORGEOUS! So, in case you’re thinking of visiting too, here’s a brief recap of everything we did.
Where to Stay
We stayed at Goldener Hirsh and absolutely LOVED it. Make sure to stay in the new building - it’s super modern and chic. The rooms are huge, modern and the location is AMAZING! It’s literally steps from the ski mountain, ski shop, restaurants and more.
A few other hotels we looked into staying at were the Montage Deer Valley, Stein Erickson and St. Regis. I'd also suggest checking into an Airbnb too because there are so many charming little chalets which makes it so much more affordable.
Skiing
HOT TIP: If you are new to skiing like we are then I HIGHLY recommend booking a lesson on the first day! Even if you've been skiing for a few years, I honestly think you learn something every time and it sets you up for confidence to enjoy the rest of your trip. Even my gf who has been skiing since she was a kids and skies blues and blacks takes a class each first season trip. Lessons are catered to your needs so you'll learn something new.
I 100% recommend that if you have kids you put the kiddos in ski school! They will learn so much and love it. It also gives mom and dad a chance to ski at a different pace and do some après skiing.
What to Pack
I broke down everything I packed in this post. From jackets and ski pants to layering pieces, boots and accessories, I laid it all out for you girls. I’ll also link some ski trip must-haves for you down below!
What to Do
So, I had NO idea that Deer Valley and Sundance (like the film festival are adjacent) or better said, downtown Deer Valley is where Sundance is hosted. This little downtown area is so cute - tons of amazing restaurants and bougie shopping. It’s super fun to walk around!
Other things to do:
Sleigh rides at Stein Erickson
Champagne and caviar at The Montage Yurt
Après Ski basically everyday
This site was a great resource for us when planning. You can get everything from lift tickets, equipment rentals, hotels, activities and more!
