The Truth About Blogging and Why I Keep Going
Hi ladies! One of the topics I get most asked about is blogging. How did I start? How does it work? To be honest it feels like I started yesterday and like still on most days don’t know what I am doing. I’m not complaining, I am SO grateful for all the amazing opportunities is has given me BUT it’s not always glamorous or easy and I want to paint a full picture and share some of the not so pretty details. So when the iconic Steve Madden came to me for this post with the question of “What Drives You” it really got me thinking about my blogging journey and why I am still at it.
I work crazy long days, actually as I type this it is past 2am and i’ve been up working since 8am. This is my normal schedule at least 5-6 days a week. I sit in front of a computer or in front of my phone for more hours then I care to admit. I am constantly feeling like I am failing the juggle of parenting, home maker and the best wife I can be because I work so much. I deal with pesky self doubt and try to push away the urge to compare myself to my peers and their accomplishments all the time. I literally have an internal calendar that is always on RED with deadlines and the 20 things I am supposed to be responding to at all times. The travel however incredible gives me SO much guilt about all the moments I am missing out on with my kids and husband.
So why do i keep at it??
First of all I have loved fashion since I could remember! I used to sketch city scapes with paper dolls dressed in the fashion of my imagination when I was just 9 or 10. I remember I used to draw them into New York city scapes, always a city girl at heart! Now I take pictures in edgy city vibes even though I live in a total beach community! Ha funny how you manifest life! Ok, fast forward, eventually friends and then referrals started asking me to style them and I loved being able to help them and make them feel confident! I still get messages from women all over asking for me to virtually style them or help them decide on a purchase, I love that you ladies value my opinion! A major driving force for my every outfit and partnership is will my followers love it! Will it make them feel strong, confident and help them take on the day!
BUT there is another reason. I had a really unstable upbringing financially. We moved a LOT, lived paycheck to paycheck and there was periods of our lives when we lived with family because we couldn’t afford not to. My mom was a single mom who did the best she could. So for me it’s not just financial independence but more importantly STABILITY. It is so important to me to have and provide a secure future for my family! To provide the experiences that I did not have and to model hard work is what gives you the reward. Let’s also be honest, who knows how long this blogging phenomenon will last so I have to work as much and as hard as I can to sure I secure our future!
Did you know that when Steve Madden started his company he drove around NYC selling his shoes out of the trunk of his car!? I love that so much, it humanizes this iconic brand and shows that anything is possible with drive and hard work!
Now what drives you?! I’d love to know what are some of the hopes and dreams you are working to fulfill and how you stay driven on your journey?!
Now let’s talk about these insanely good pumps! I am legit obsessed with these spiked babies. What I love about Steve Madden is that they create shoes that you would see on the runway but at a price we can all afford! AND you are not sacrificing quality! I have so many Steve Madden shoes that are total favorites!
For this look I paired my denim spiked beauties with denim on denim and chose to go with a relaxed cuffed denim to really let the shoes have a moment! I’m loving this jean fit right now btw. I finished the look with a graphic tee and a this bone leather jacket that is so spring!
There are so many great Steve Madden shoes from spring that I thought I would give you all my must have picks! AND did I mention they are ALL under $100! Happy shopping!
Thank so much for reading along ladies and I hope you liked this post and getting a bit more insight to my world.
Cheers, Lucy
