Staying fit and healthy through the holiday season is one of the biggest battles ever, but even a few small changes can make a difference. We only have a few weeks left in 2019, so it’s a great time to help yourself and someone you know get motivated for the new year. Plus, I believe that we can all use a little TLC to get through the holiday season - it often comes with so much stress and exhaustion! I truly believe that if you feel good you look good, and luckily, it doesn’t require a full overhaul of your lifestyle to get started. Cute workout clothes and new gear always helps motivate me, so I rounded up a bunch of unique fitness gifts that can help anyone get after those health and wellness goals.

I also wanted to share some tips for staying healthy through the holiday season.

1. Have fun with it! I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who loves going to the gym to lift weights, or at least I don’t!  However, trying a workout class or new routine is a different story.  My latest obsession is Bikram Yoga that I swear is helping me manage stress SO much and leaning out the body like crazy!  Ohh and my posture has way improved!  Win!  Some other things that are great this time of year with the short days is involving the family!  Spend a few days a week jogging/walking around your neighborhood with the kids or playing sports with your husband, you get rime together and work off dinner! :)

2. Make one healthier choice. It’s so hard to resist all the amazing food, cocktails, and desserts around the holidays, which is why I’m more about portion control.   Fill the bulk of your plate with veggies/salad and skip the fruity drinks!  Also as a rule, if it’s a potluck I make sure I BRING the healthy plate!  (Think lentil salads, roasted veggies with hummus plates) That way I am sure there is an option that’s good for me and others!  And before heading to a party, eat a healthy small meal to fill up or shake beforehand, drink a glass of water after each cocktail, and cook at home during the weekdays!

Fit Tip: I’m a white wine or martini girl because it’s the lowest in sugar and carbs

3. Schedule your workouts. Sometimes, staying fit is all about making time to work out. I’m def not the best at time management but I find that marking my workouts in my calendar keeps me on track. Morning workouts are the most effective because I’m usually too tired by the end of the day to want to do anything active.

4. Boost your immune system. This is a BIG struggle for me because I have Hashimoto’s, meaning already my immune system is compromised and this year I’ve gotten sick more then normal.  I’m at a point now where I can’t afford to get sick anymore so I’m always looking for supplements, vitamins, and meals that will help boost my immune system. Foods rich in Vitamin C and A as well as zinc are all essential.  I also include a LOT of Turmeric and I sprinkle these Kelp and Dulce Granules on eggs, fish and mix into dressings to masque the taste that is kind yuck!  Adding these are great to help with inflammation and strengthening my immune! Also did you know that lack of sleep lowers your immune system as well as stress!  So again Yoga, not just because it keep me fit but because it’s mentally good for me!  Staying hydrated and getting enough sleep are also things I try to be mindful of.

5. Pamper yourself. Studies reveal that pampering yourself reduces stress and pain and relaxes muscles, which are all so necessary during this crazy time of year. That said, find ways to pamper yourself - whatever that means for you.   Getting a massage once a month, a nice walk on the beach, shutting off my phone and watching a comedy special are some of my favorites, I always feel SO good when I laugh like crazy!!  And you know I love indulging in a bit of wine, Netflix, and topping it all off with a warm bath with epsom salts and essential oils!
