How I'm Styling Shorts This Summer - Casual Brunch Style
Now, you ladies probably already know I love a good pair of denim shorts, and believe it or not, I get a lot of questions about how I like to style them. I also happen to be VERY particular about how my shorts fit! Denim shorts are great for casual days when you have to run errands, drop the kids off at school, or grab some groceries. But, what about those hot summer days when you need something dressier but the thought of wearing pants just sounds miserable? Well, I’m here to tell you that denim shorts can totally be dressed up or down to fit any occasion!
So, I wanted to introduce a new series where I’ll be showing you how I’m styling shorts this summer. Today, I’m sharing a casual (but still elevated) brunch style look but stay tuned for more ways I like to style shorts. That’s right… I’ll be sharing my styling tips for wearing shorts to date night, cocktail hour, and more!
Today’s look is entirely from Nordstrom - I find myself shopping there all the time because they have the best quality pieces that will last forever. I’m also guilty of using their curbside pick-up whenever I’m on the go - WAY too convenient for busy mamas like myself!
STYLING TIPS
Size up - My first styling tip for buying denim shorts is to size up. They just look so much more flattering when they aren’t skin tight. They also give that more relaxed, cool girl look that we all strive for. When shorts are slightly oversized they’re also more wearable with heels which is another one of my tips for elevating a pair of denim shorts.
Pair with a relaxed top - I personally think denim shorts look best when paired with something more relaxed on top. Since you’re already showing some skin, a looser fitted top helps balance out the look. I love wearing a boyfriend button-down or a statement sleeve blouse with denim shorts.
Cuff or Un-cuff them - If you have a longer pair of shorts like these, you have the option to cuff them shorter while still looking appropriate because of the loose fit OR un-cuff it it feels more comfortable to you. I photographed them both ways to show you girls the versatility of this pair!
