NYFW 2019 Recap + Mini NYC Guide

Happy Friday! It’s been a busy past few weeks especially with all the New York Fashion Week festivities, but I’m back today to breakdown every single look I wore and to share a little mini city guide! NYC is one of my absolute fave cities in the world, and it’s unfortunate that I don’t get to visit as much as I’d like to. This year, I took a different approach to fashion week and spent more time enjoying the city, meeting with my favorite brands, and shooting a ton of content. I did attend some really great shows, but made sure not to overpack my schedule - and in the end, I’m so happy with how the whole trip turned out.

Where to Stay

During this trip, I stayed at NoMo SoHo, which I love for its beautiful entrance and convenient location. SoHo is one of my favorite neighborhoods because of all the cobblestone streets and amazing stores to shop, restaurants and it just really gives you that NYF feel. I also highly recommend The James Hotel SoHo for the incredible views and aesthetic! It’s where I normally stay but we needed a room with two beds this time and they don’t have that option FYI! They also have the best happy hour for wine lovers. If you’re into that uptown vibe, Viceroy Central Park (now called Le Meridien New York) is a short walk to all the Fifth Avenue shops and it’s right across the street from Central Park (my fave!). It was decorated by Kelly Wearstler and is to die! I also love The Bowery, The Baccarat, Ludlow Hotel, and Sixty SoHo.

Coffee & Brunch Spots

Coffee is a fashion week must-have. I always crab a cup from La Colombe - they have 8 locations spread conveniently throughout the city. It gets busy but the coffee is SO good! Get the oat latte draft! When I feel like scaling back on caffeine, I’ll go for matcha at Cha Cha Matcha. It’s an instagram pic favorite for sure!

For a quick brunch bite, The Egg Shop and The Butcher’s Daughter are hands down my favorites. You have to get the friend plantains & avocado toast if you go Butcher’s Daughter. Sadelle’s is also super delish!

Favorite Restaurants

One of the reasons why I love NYC so much because there’s no shortage of delicious restaurants. As much as I want to try out new places whenever I go back, I have a few tried-and-true that I’m never without. My mind is flooded with options, but I’m going to narrow it down to a few options for you guys.

Balthazar - I NEVER leave NYC without a visit. It’s a traditional French kitchen that serves up a wide variety of fresh seafood and pastries that are made fresh daily. I always start with the Balthazar Salad and a martini!

Buddakan - If you love Asian cuisine, Buddakan won’t disappoint. I love the vibe, the flavors, and the various dishes, which makes it perfect place for groups. AND it happens to be the Sex in The City restaurant, you know the one! ;)

The Polo Bar - The Polo Bar is so exquisite and always makes me feel extra chic. They offer an elevated take on classic American dishes and the flavors are right on par.

More Restaurants… :)

Quality Meats - This steakhouse is great for dinner dates and small groups. They make some of the most flavorful steaks I’ve had.

Locanda Verde - NYC has tons of great options for Italian food, and this one is of course one of them. The rustic atmosphere is super cute and feels so classy. And the food is amazing!

Nobu - You can never go wrong with Nobu wherever you are in the world. The food and service always exceeds my expectations.

Mylos Estiatorio - Whenever I’m in the mood for fresh mediterranean flavors, this is my go-to spot. They fly in fresh fish daily from around the world - I don’t think it gets fresher than this!

Scarpetta - Classic. Get the spaghetti and the lamb!

Beauty & Essex - This place is such a sexy night out vibe! They have some great vegan options and the cocktails are spot on!

Thai Villa - For traditional Thai food that isn’t overly priced, Thai Villa is my go-to. The interior decor is stunning and the value you get for what you pay can’t really be beat.

Prince Street Pizza - You can’t go to NYC and not get pizza! Prince Street Pizza makes the best! The dough is light and crispy and doesn't leave you feeling gross. The lines can get long, but it’s 100% worth it.

Frenchette - This upscale bistro offers a mix of modern and traditional French fare. The food is so good, but the wine is on another level.

Show Highlights

Now for the show highlights, I attended Self-Portrait, and as expected, it showcased some of the most beautifully structured dresses. I took mental note of all the utility accents which I naturally gravitate towards. I’m so glad it’s going to be HUGE next spring. I also got to see the Rebecca Minkoff presentation - it was a symbol of feminism in its finest form (loved the mom and baby installation). And then it concluded with Cinq A Sept, which was brimming with vibrant colors and flowy fabrics.

NYFW is the best time to network with brands. Since most of our work as influencers is done digitally, we rarely ever get that face time. It’s so important so I was happy that I got to catch up with my favorite brands like Cami NYC (you guys know how much I obsess over their camis). I also had productive meetings with Marissa Web and Retrofete.

That basically sums up my NYFW SS20 trip. If you happen to visit the city with extra time to spare, be sure to stop by The High Line and Dumbo - both are so picturesque and make for really amazing photos (on and off the gram)!
