All the Details on My New Haircut and What I Ask My Hair-colorist For!
Hi Ladies! So I totally chopped off my hair and I LOVE it! You ladies always have a lot of questions about my hair color and about the new do so it thought I’d combine into one post for you!
First of all a little backstory on my hair….
I have naturally curly/wavy thick hair and about a year ago I got a Balayage that totally fried my hair! On top of that I had to start taking some medication for my Hashimotos that really made it SO dry! Needles to say my hair was at the point of no return, I was struggling so much trying to make it not look like straw that I was over it, I was ready for a change!
Where I Went
I ended up finding a new hair salon that everyone had been raving about Rinse Hair Salon in my San Diego area. I thought what the heck I’ll try someone new because I was crunched for time and about to travel. I ended up getting set up with Ashley and the first time I saw her we did a good trim and covered my grays, YES I have grey and it sucks! Anyway I figured before I made any big changes I’d start with that to make sure I liked her work. She did such a great job and totally listened to my description. AND I’m picky because full disclosure I used to do hair for a living!!! Anyway I was super happy and LOVED the vibe of the salon, super modern and they had me at concrete! ;) If you’re local, I highly recommend.
What I ask for : Color
Because my hair is still on the mend we just cover my roots with a dark neutral brown but the magic is in the ends… we use a toffee colored gloss! This warms up my ends and also gives my hair variation. We also leave out pieces so that there is dimension and it doesn’t all look one color! So faux high and low lights without the damage… Genius right!?
Hair Cut
Like I said, i was ready for a change and I’d seen some great inverted bobs, that’s the name of the cut if you want to get technical! Basically it’s a collar length bob that is shorter in the back. I like super choppy layers but not too much or it shatters the outline of the cut. Then I also had her do some layers in the crown so that I could have lots of volume! OBSESSED with my new cut and my hair feels so healthy and fresh! I actually think I’ll keep it this length for a while i love it so much.
What Products I’m Using
Because my hair is still really dry Ashley recommended I use this Virtue Recovery Shampoo and Conditioner products to bring my hair back to life. So far I am loving and they smell like a dream! If you girls recall I also have eczema on my scalp so I have been alternating with mu Neutrogena T/Sal Shampoo to keep my scalp in check!
Styling
I start out with this leave in frizz cream then let it air dry. I used to use my T3 Curling iron to do my hair but now it’s so short it doesn’t work as well so I started using my GHD Flatiron to give it a bend/curl but still keep it edgy. You could also use a smaller curling iron, maybe a 1in. and leave out the ends.
After I do the iron I put this Virtue Split End Serum on my ends to give them shine. Then I finish the whole look with my favorite IGK Beach Waves, that really gives me the volume and NOT perfect vibe that I like!
If you’re local you can get all these products at Rinse Hair Salon and they could even recommend others that are ideal for your hair!
I hope this is helpful and answers the questions on my hair, and let me know if there’s anything else i can answer in the comments and I’ll make sure to respond!
Cheers and have a great weekend ladies!
Lucy
